Bangkok and arrived in Sattahip :)

After a long travel day, with a layover in Kuwait, I arrived in Bangkok on Thursday and made my way to my hostel just off Khoa San road. I met some fellow solo travellers straight away, and joined them that evening for a night out at rooftop bars which was super fun!🍻

Yesterday, I explored the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, followed by a traditional theatre performance. I walked back to the hostel, taking in the city along the way and stopping for coffee and snacks. I spent last night with the same group as the previous evening. We had a tuk tuk race to a bar and then went to a Drag Show.🛺 As gay marriage has just been legalised in Thailand, it was a great atmosphere and I had a really good time. I made some really close connections in such a short period, and I was nearly convinced to stay longer. However, as I am starting my first volunteering stint tomorrow it wouldn’t have been possible sadly.

I am honestly surprised I enjoyed Bangkok as much as I did! It’s been a packed few days full of sightseeing, meeting new people, and taking in the atmosphere.

I am now in Sattahip, which is about 3 hours south of Bangkok. I am staying at the only hostel here and the owner has told me that hardly any foreigners come here so I will become one of the locals! The village is mainly owned by the Thai Navy, meaning foreigners shouldn’t really wander around the streets. No complaints from me on this as I have been able to relax on the hostel rooftop and read my book (currently reading ‘Girl, Women, Other’ by Bernardine Evaristo which I am enjoying). Tonight I will be going to the local food market and watching the sunset which is apparently amazing here ☀️

Hope everyone is doing well and Storm Eowyn hasn’t blown you away!! xoxo

Sounds like you’re having the best time! I wonder if you’ll meet up again with any of the folks you’ve met during your travels? Stay safe and look forward to hearing all about your WorkAway. Love you Mum xx
