Hello everyone!
I have just spent the last few days in Don Det which is in the south of Laos and makes up part of the 4000 islands region.
Life moves slowly here, with no cars, no real schedule, and nothing to do except exactly what you feel like. I have been making the most of this and really enjoying an easygoing routine.
Mornings I spent reading (I finished 3 books in 3 days - Can’t remember the last time I did that!), or going for a run before it got too hot. I spent a few days hiring a bike, riding across the old railway bridge to Don Khon, a slightly bigger (but just as relaxed) neighbouring island. The ride is an easy one, winding through palm trees, rice paddies, and passing lots of cows. Evenings, I spent enjoying a Beer Lao watching the sunset, meeting other travellers and playing card games, and enjoying yummy Lao food.
Solo travelling can be tiring with decision fatigue and constantly being on the move. Therefore, it has been great to have some time here to slow down, meet other travellers, and just enjoy the pace of island life.
After leaving Laos this morning, I am now travelling through Cambodia, my third country of the trip! I am taking the bus with some friends I have made in Don Det heading to Phnom Penh. The bus I am taking is the best bus I have ever been on - comfy seats, free food, drinks, TV screens and a super easy border crossing due to help from the staff. Happy days! I am watching a new Netflix show called Adolescence which I highly recommend.
I am super excited to be in a new country and experiencing a different culture. I will also be meeting up with a holiday romance I made in Thailand so I am sure that will add to the fun haha!
Hope everyone is well. Lots of love xoxo
