After leaving Kampot, we made our way to Koh Rong Sanloem and Koh Rong - two islands that couldn’t be more different, but both offered their own kind of experience.
Koh Rong Sanloem: The Chill Island
Koh Rong Sanloem was exactly what we were after - a quiet spot to relax. We stayed at a nice resort, which was a bit of a splurge for our budget. To make it work, we stuck to instant noodles for lunch and made sure to take full advantage of the free breakfast each morning.
One morning, I managed to get in a quick run before the heat set in. The island was calm and mostly empty early in the day, so it was nice to get out and move around before it got too hot.
We also found a local restaurant that was a bit off the beaten path, and we visited each night. The owner had her kids around, and we ended up helping out a bit with looking after them. The food was great, and we ended up staying longer than expected, joining in with the locals for a small party that popped up. It felt like a genuine, local experience that added a nice touch to our time on the island.
The rest of our time on the island was pretty low-key - swimming in the sea, hanging out by the pool, and just enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. It was exactly the break we needed.
Koh Rong: More Party, Less Chill
After a few days of downtime, we headed to Koh Rong - known as the party island. The vibe here was completely different. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t play along, and we had some rainy days, but we still explored the island as much as we could.
Koh Rong is a lot more lively, with bars and parties going on in the main areas. We didn’t get too involved in the nightlife, but you can definitely tell this island caters more to those looking for a party atmosphere. Even with the weather being a bit off, the energy on the island was still there, and we spent a couple of days enjoying the nearby restaurants, street food stalls and happy hour deals.
Moving on to Battambang
After a couple of days on the islands, we’re now in Battambang, which feels like a totally different vibe. Looking forward to seeing what this place has to offer!
Lots of love to everyone!! Xxxx

Hi Maddie, really lovely to catch up with your blog. As I'm reading it I can just picture you sitting in some remote village writing about your adventures. The experiences, good and bad, all sound amazing.
It's beautiful weather here at the moment. And today we're in Sam's garden helping with laying sleepers to build up a sunken bit of his garden, ready to contruct a climbing frame for Archer. Happy days!
Love from us all and a special 'Hi!' from Archer ♥️ xx
Loving the blogs!
Fabulous photos. Looks and sounds like an amazing adventure.
